Cavapoo & Mini Poodle Puppy Yoga

Cavapoo & Mini Poodle Puppy Yoga

Why These Two Breeds Steal the Show

Most people walk into puppy yoga expecting chaos.

What surprises them about cavapoo and mini poodle classes is the opposite. These two breeds — and we have both at all four of our studios — are unusually calm in group environments, especially compared to working breeds or terriers. They will come check you out, sit on your mat, and then often just stay there, watching the class.

It is the puppy yoga equivalent of getting an unexpectedly perfect latte.

What Makes These Breeds Different

Cavapoos are a cross between Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and Poodles — small, soft-coated, and bred for companionship. Mini poodles are the smaller version of the standard poodle, with the same intelligence and trainability in a 10–15 pound package.

In a class setting, both breeds tend to:

Sit and observe more than dart around. Choose a guest and stay with them for a while. Sleep through more of the cuddle half than other breeds. Engage gently — less mat-stealing, less face-licking, more "I will just be here."

It is not that they are quieter dogs in general. It is that group-class environments suit them. Cavaliers and poodles were both historically bred as companion animals, and group attention is something they take to easily.

Why People With Mild Dog Allergies Prefer These Classes

A practical note: poodles and most poodle-mix breeds (including cavapoos) shed significantly less than other dogs. They are often described as "hypoallergenic," and while that claim is a popular shorthand more than a clinical truth — no breed is fully allergen-free, per the ACAAI — they do produce noticeably less dander.

In practical terms, guests with mild dog allergies who would have a reaction in a husky or golden class often do fine in a cavapoo or mini poodle class. We have heard this in person dozens of times.

A few realistic guardrails:

If your dog allergy is severe, this is not a substitute for medical advice. Pre-medicate as you normally would. Sit closer to a window or doorway if possible. Tell the staff at check-in — we can position you accordingly. After class, change clothes before doing anything that involves your face.

The closest we offer to allergy-friendly is a cavapoo or mini poodle session. It is not zero risk. It is meaningfully lower risk.

What a Cavapoo or Mini Poodle Class Looks Like

Different texture from our other class types.

The room is quieter. The instructor's voice carries more easily because there is less background chaos. More of the yoga half actually gets done as yoga — less "puppy on your face during downward dog," more "puppy at the corner of your mat, watching with what can only be described as polite interest."

The cuddle half also runs differently. With other breeds, people end up actively engaging with the puppies — picking them up, putting them down, taking action shots. With cavapoos and mini poodles, guests tend to sit still and let the puppy choose them. The whole thing is calmer.

We have noticed first-time guests, people who are nervous around dogs, and people who get overwhelmed in chaotic environments overwhelmingly prefer these class types when they have the choice.

"The Cavalier is a sweet, affectionate, happy and confident toy spaniel. They make excellent companions for almost any household."

When and Where to Find Them

Both breeds are featured at all four of our studios — New York, Chicago, Seattle, and San Francisco.

Cavapoo and mini poodle litters from our breeder partners come through fairly consistently year-round, so these breeds appear in class rotations more reliably than seasonal breeds. If you specifically want a cavapoo or mini poodle session, message us before booking and we will confirm what is on the schedule.

A Few Practical Notes

Best for: first-timers, people who get overwhelmed in chaos, allergy-sensitive guests, anyone who wants more of the yoga half to actually feel like yoga. Still includes: full thirty minutes guided yoga + thirty minutes cuddles and photos. Still photogenic: cavapoos and mini poodles photograph beautifully in our natural-light studios. Class size: the same as our other sessions — small enough that every guest gets meaningful puppy time.

A Quick Note on the Breeds

Cavapoo: cross between Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle. Usually 10–20 pounds. Soft, curly or wavy coat. Gentle disposition inherited from the Cavalier side, intelligence and lower shedding from the Poodle side. Not recognized as a standalone AKC breed (designer hybrid).

Mini Poodle: one of three Poodle size varieties recognized by the AKC. Smaller than the Standard Poodle, larger than the Toy. Highly intelligent — Poodles regularly rank in the top three breeds by trainability in major canine studies.

Both breeds were originally developed as companion animals. That is, in a real sense, what they are still good at.

If you want puppy yoga in its calmest, most beginner-friendly form, this is the class type to book. Available in New York, Chicago, Seattle, and San Francisco. We will save you a mat.
